Types and types of bets in bookmakers

A bet in a bookmaker’s office means a certain amount of money that a player puts on the result of an upcoming sports competition. A complete list of events on which you can bet money is called a line. Usually, the bookmaker’s office provides lines printed on four strips of A3 format, with the help of which visitors can familiarize themselves with the proposed competitions.

Types of bets in bookmakers

Depending on the outcome of the game, the types of bets in the bookmaker’s office also differ. The types of odds, that is, the percentage of money to be paid out in case of winning, directly depend on the type of bet in the bookmaker and are calculated by its analysts.

Bets are usually divided into:

  • long-term,
  • pre-match,
  • live betting.

Long-term bets usually have the highest odds, since they are accepted in advance on the winner of any stage of the competition. Pre-match bets are accepted just before the start of a sporting event. Real-time betting odds are the most unpredictable, since they are accepted already during the game, when its outcome is still difficult to predetermine.

Depending on the analytical forecasts of a certain match, one of the teams will be the favorite and the other the outsider. It is assumed, but not guaranteed, that the favorite team will beat the outsider team. In this case, the value of the coefficient will be inversely proportional to the chance of the predicted win.

Choosing a bet on a clear favorite, the player minimizes the risks, but deprives himself of the pleasure of a possible big win and the thrill of watching a match, the interest in which increases significantly. But in order for the game to bring not only pleasure, but also profit, let’s look at the types of bookmaker bets.

Bet types

Conventionally, the types of bets can be divided into single and group. Single bets include all bets placed on the outcome of one match or event. Their types will be listed and deciphered below. Group bets are considered those, the winnings of which depend on the results of several competitions. The coefficients of group bets are usually much higher than single bets, but the risks are higher, respectively.

Types of single sports betting

The main bets on the results of the competition are of the following types:

  • the outcome of the competition;
  • handicap or handicap – they, in fact, are no different;
  • total;
  • special rates.

Deciphering rates

Betting on the outcome of a match is one of the most popular and understandable types of bets, which is divided into single outcome and double outcome. The essence of the single is clear from the name – the player puts money on the victory of the first (1) or second (2) team or on a draw (X). In this case, the chances are not difficult to predict with a good knowledge of the teams and their lineups. The double outcome of the match is a bet with reinsurance, but has the lowest odds. By betting on a double outcome of the match, you can win if one of the teams wins (12) or if a certain team wins or draws (1X, X2).

Handicap is a more complex type of bet that requires good orientation not only in football, but also in the manner of playing certain players, team tactics. To do this, the bookmaker provides an advantage or lag of the participants, usually expressed in goals. In order for this bet to win, you need not only the victory of one of the teams, but also a victory with a certain advantage in goals, for example, more than one goal (2:0, 3:1, 4:2) or the loss of the other team by no more than than one goal. This type of bet is conditionally divided into a handicap with a plus, minus or zero sign. A handicap with zero guarantees a refund of the bet if there is a draw.

The handicap was invented and used in order to increase the interest of the fans with the obvious outcome of the match in advance. For example, when it is obvious that a strong team will beat a mediocre team, the odds on the outcome of the match are small and unattractive. Then the offer of a handicap will make you shake your head and “wiggle your brains”.

The total differs from the handicap in that the winning combination is not the victory or advantage of one team over the other, but the number of goals in general. The bookmaker’s office is invited to guess whether there will be over/under the stated number of bets. One of the varieties of this type of bet is the exact score, in which it is proposed to guess the exact number of goals scored and win with a high coefficient.

Special bets are quite often offered by bookmakers to diversify and increase the excitement of players. These are bets on events and features that may affect the course of the game, but which may not occur. Such events include penalties, corner goals, the number of goals of a particular team, and others. Such bets include a time match, which offers to guess not only the outcome of the entire game, but also the outcome of the first match.
